May 2026: A Month of Milestones in Open Hardware

The OSHWA certification database continues its impressive growth, now boasting an astounding 3326 individual certifications. May 2026 proved to be another vibrant month for the open hardware community, with 16 innovative projects earning their official OSHWA seal of approval. From sophisticated robotic arms to ingenious conference badge accessories, this latest batch showcases the incredible breadth and creativity flourishing within the open source ecosystem. We’re thrilled to see both familiar faces and exciting newcomers contributing to this ever-expanding landscape.

Pioneering Robotics: The reBot Arm B601

Leading the charge this month is the reBot Arm B601, a groundbreaking project from Seeed Studio that marks OSHWA’s very first Chinese robotics certification (UID CN000024). We had the privilege of experiencing the reBot-DevArm firsthand at this year’s Summit, and its fluid, precise movements were truly captivating. A Whimsical Windmill: The SAO for Your Badge

Another standout from the Summit, the Windmill SAO (UID PL000026) by Kantoniak, redefines what a conference badge accessory can be. Far from simple, this 3D-printed marvel draws inspiration from 19th-century Dutch tower mills, transforming your badge into a delightful conversation starter. While the Summit showcased many impressive SAOs, the Windmill SAO truly stole the show with its charming design and practical utility as a small, personal fan – a delightful touch for any event!

RISC-V Revolution: The FPGA Badge

With the RISC-V Summit set to ignite Bologna from June 8-12th, we’re incredibly proud to contribute a certified open source hardware project: the RISC-V FPGA Badge (UID IT000028) by Tan Siret. This badge represents a small yet significant part of a larger movement. Throughout the week, innovators and enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond will converge to explore the transformative impact of RISC-V, celebrate exciting breakthroughs, and collaborate on future developments in hands-on workshops.
