Stormy Weather Expected Across Morocco on Friday

Morocco is bracing itself for a tumultuous Friday, with the Directorate General of Meteorology predicting a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and potentially even snowfall across various regions.

Regional Breakdown

The central regions, southeast, and northwestern parts of the southern provinces are expected to be particularly affected by the inclement weather, with showers and localized thunderstorms forecasted. Additionally, areas north of El Jadida, the western Atlas region, and parts of the northern Sahara near Boujdour are likely to experience rainfall.
The Atlas Mountains are expected to receive snowfall, with temperatures plummeting to as low as -3°C to 3°C in the high plateaus and mountains. In contrast, the desert regions and coastal areas can expect temperatures ranging from 9°C to 15°C.

Wind and Sea Conditions

Winds are expected to be moderately strong in some areas, particularly along the Mediterranean coast and the central and southern Atlantic coast. Sea conditions will vary, ranging from calm to slightly rough along the Mediterranean, and rough to very rough between Asilah and Tan-Tan.

Recent Weather Patterns

Morocco has experienced a notable drop in temperatures over the past few weeks, with heavy rain and snowfall reported in several provinces. Videos shared online have shown the extent of the snowfall in mountainous areas, with many villages struggling to cope with isolation.
A snow-clearing truck was deployed to the Ait Tamlil area of Azilal province to bring relief to residents who had been struggling due to blocked roads.
