World Launches ‘Super App’ with Crypto Pay and Encrypted Chat Features
World, the biometric ID verification project co-founded by Sam Altman, has released the newest version of its app, featuring several new capabilities, including an encrypted chat integration and an expanded, Venmo-like capability for sending and requesting crypto.
However, the company’s main challenge remains scaling verification, with Altman aiming to scan a billion people’s eyes, but currently having scanned less than 20 million.
New Features and Capabilities
Meanwhile, the new version of the app includes World Chat, a messenger that uses end-to-end encryption to keep users’ conversations safe, similar to Signal.
Consequently, users can also send and receive cryptocurrency, using virtual bank accounts to receive paychecks directly into the app and make deposits from their bank accounts.
Verification Process and Expansion
Moreover, the company has already sought to make its verification process less cumbersome by introducing Orb Minis, hand-held devices that allow users to scan their own eyes from the comfort of their homes.
Therefore, the company plans to turn the Orb Minis into a mobile point-of-sale device or sell its ID sensor tech to device manufacturers, potentially inspiring more widespread adoption.
Future Plans and Goals
In addition, the company aims to create a more interactive experience for users, with the new World Chat feature designed to fill that need and provide a secure way to communicate.
However, the company’s main challenge remains scaling verification, with Altman aiming to scan a billion people’s eyes, but currently having scanned less than 20 million.
