Polestar Electrifies the Future: A Trio of New Models, Including a Game-Changing Polestar 4 Wagon

Swedish electric performance car brand Polestar is charging ahead with an ambitious expansion plan, set to introduce three new models within the next two years. This strategic move aims to significantly bolster its market presence, particularly with a nod to its heritage: a highly anticipated station wagon (or estate/shooting brake) variant of the Polestar 4.

Polestar 4: A Wagon Reimagined for Modern Drivers

Currently, Polestar’s U.S. offerings primarily consist of SUVs – the Polestar 3 and the existing Polestar 4. However, the brand is diversifying its popular Polestar 4 lineup. While a traditional SUV variant will continue, the spotlight falls on a groundbreaking four-door wagon-type version. CEO Michael Lohscheller describes this innovative model as a fusion of “the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV,” promising “all the good things from the current car, but it’s a bit more practical.”

This new, more practical Polestar 4 is slated for release later this year. In a strategic manufacturing decision, it will be produced in Busan, South Korea. This move is designed to circumvent potential U.S. tariffs on vehicles assembled in China, ensuring competitive pricing and smoother market entry.

Expanding the Portfolio: Polestar 2 and Polestar 7

A Refreshed Polestar 2 for Younger Audiences

Beyond the Polestar 4, the automaker is also preparing a refreshed iteration of the Polestar 2. This updated model, slightly longer to enhance passenger comfort, is specifically tailored for younger buyers. While it will be manufactured in China, similar to the current Polestar 2, it is unlikely to make its way to the U.S. market.

Polestar 7: Targeting Europe’s Compact SUV Boom

Looking further ahead, the Polestar 7 will emerge as a compact SUV, sharing its lineage with Volvo’s EX60. This model is earmarked for the European market, strategically positioned to capitalize on the continent’s rapidly expanding compact SUV segment. Lohscheller expressed confidence, stating, “We are convinced that we can offer customers a progressive performance-driven car for a very attractive price point, built in Europe.”

Global Ambitions and Market Strategy

These new additions are pivotal to Polestar’s overarching goal: to achieve 60 percent of global EV sales by “targeting the big profit pools of the BEV segment.” Having strategically withdrawn from the intensely competitive Chinese market, Polestar’s sales are predominantly concentrated in Europe, accounting for a significant 78 percent, with the U.S. making up most of the remainder.

Despite this current distribution, Polestar harbors strong ambitions for growth in the American market. Lohscheller emphasized the U.S.’s enduring potential: “People forget that the U.S. is a big EV market, especially on the east and west coasts. And it will stay a big market.” With a record 61,000 EVs sold in 2025, the Geely-owned Swedish company is clearly aiming for a much larger slice of the global electric vehicle pie.
