Goldman Sachs CEO: Experience Trumps Brains
David Solomon, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, says he’d hire someone ‘smart enough’ over the smartest person in the world.
According to Solomon, experience is “hugely underrated” and a key differentiator for the firm.
He believes that relying on book smarts over real-life expertise won’t get you hired at Goldman Sachs.
Other CEOs Agree
LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky also thinks that hiring managers should focus on AI-savvy talent, not just Ivy League grads.
Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett looks past Ivy League degrees when hiring, saying “I never look at where a candidate has gone to school.”
Buffett also points to Microsoft’s Bill Gates, who achieved billion-dollar success without a college diploma.
The Tide is Changing
Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg says that colleges aren’t skilling graduates for the jobs they need, and that the tide is changing.
Employers are now hunting for new talent skills, and people are starting to question whether pursuing a degree makes sense anymore.
Zuckerberg warns that there will be a reckoning, and people will have to figure out whether college is necessary for success.
