Morocco Continues to Support Vulnerable Communities Amid Severe Winter Conditions
Meanwhile, Moroccan authorities are continuing their efforts to support vulnerable populations affected by harsh winter weather, especially in rural and mountainous areas.
This comes as several regions across Morocco have experienced heavy rain, snowfall, and strong winds in recent weeks.
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has launched its annual “Cold Weather Relief” operation in the Fez-Meknes region, benefiting more than 14,300 families.
Aid Distribution and Humanitarian Efforts
Moreover, aid distribution began in the commune of Ighzran in Sefrou province, where families received food supplies and blankets.
Overall, around 2,340 families across four communes in the province are benefiting from this initiative.
Nationally, the operation has reached nearly 30,000 families in 28 provinces.
Healthcare Initiatives
Consequently, humanitarian health actions are being strengthened in several regions.
In the commune of Oulad Dlim in Marrakech, a multi-specialty medical caravan provided free medical consultations and treatments to around 600 people.
The initiative offered services in general medicine, women’s health, cardiology, dentistry, eye care, and early cancer screening.
Deployed Military Field Hospitals
In addition, the Royal Armed Forces have deployed military field hospitals in mountainous areas, including Ait Mohamed in Azilal province and Ourika in Al Haouz province.
These hospitals are fully equipped and staffed with medical teams providing daily consultations, emergency care, surgeries, and specialized treatments.
And in remote or critical cases, patients are transferred by helicopter to specialized hospitals.
Local Residents’ Reaction
Local residents welcomed these initiatives, saying they have helped reduce suffering caused by cold temperatures, snow, and difficult access to healthcare.
Morocco has experienced unusually heavy rain in some regions, causing significant damage, especially in Safi, where flash floods killed at least 37 people and injured dozens of others.
In addition, the disaster caused significant material damage.
Investigation and Accountability
Moreover, Morocco opened an investigation to determine the real reasons behind this tragedy, with locals calling for accountability and criticizing what they called the marginalization of undeserved areas.
Locals are demanding justice and compensation for the victims and their families.
The government has promised to take necessary measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
