Tis the Season for Another Blackstone Holiday Video

Blackstone’s annual holiday video is out, and it’s a tongue-in-cheek tribute to its 1980s origins. The video riffs on everything from Ken Burns-style narration to execs dancing their way through “Dirty Dancing”-style choreography.

Executives portraying the firm’s mid-life crisis include one who wears a nose ring and others who want to buy sports teams or Ferrari. Cameos include actor Danny DeVito pitching jargon-filled investment products.

Why Does Blackstone Spend So Much Time on Holiday Videos?

Blackstone is no stranger to quirky holiday videos. In fact, this was their 8th in a row. You might be wondering: Why does Blackstone spend so much time, effort, and money on such a thing?

Earlier this month, at a conference, President Jon Gray said the video was a way for the world’s largest private investor to “make fun of ourselves.” The video ends on a poignant note in memory of Wesley LePatner, a Blackstone executive who was killed in the tragic summer shooting at the firm’s NYC headquarters.

A Tradition of Quirky Holiday Videos

Blackstone produced its first holiday video in 2018 as a replacement for its New York holiday party, as the firm had grown too large. Apollo produced its own holiday video in 2022, but this year the private-equity firm appears to have pivoted to publishing.

Blackstone’s holiday video has become a tradition, and it’s a way for the firm to poke fun at itself and its industry.
