Vanilla Syrup: A Simple yet Versatile Recipe
In the world of mixology and baking, a good vanilla syrup can be a game-changer. This easy-to-make recipe requires just three ingredients and can be prepared in under 15 minutes, making it a perfect addition to any home bar or kitchen.
What Can You Do with Vanilla Syrup?
Vanilla syrup is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of ways. It’s a great addition to homemade lattes and other coffee drinks, and can also be used to add flavor to cold beverages like sparkling water or Diet Coke. But that’s not all – vanilla syrup is also useful for making cocktails, baked goods, and even as a glaze for desserts.
The Recipe
To make vanilla syrup, you’ll need just three ingredients:
* 1 cup granulated white sugar
* 1 cup water
* 1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
Instructions
1. In a small to medium pot, combine the sugar and water. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat, whisking constantly until the sugar is fully dissolved.
2. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the vanilla bean paste or extract. If using vanilla beans, slice them down the center and scrape out the seeds (the little black dots).
3. Allow the mixture to sit and cool for about 10 minutes. If using vanilla beans, remove the pods now.
4. Pour the vanilla syrup into a storage container and store it in the refrigerator for at least two weeks.
Tips and Variations
* If you want the look of vanilla beans in your syrup, you’ll need to use either vanilla bean paste or vanilla beans.
* You can swap the granulated white sugar for brown sugar for a slightly different flavor.
