He suggested that they give up certain products, including pencils. “You can give up pencils,” Trump said. “That’s under the China policy, you know, every child can get 37 pencils, they only need one or two, you know, they don’t need that many.”
Comedian and TV host Stephen Colbert mocked Trump’s advice during his Late Show monologue on Wednesday night. “How much does he think pencils cost?” Colbert asked, referencing a pack of pencils on Amazon that costs $4.36. “So saving money on pencils may not be the stupidest thing he’s ever said, but I’m gonna say it’s number two.”
