OpenAI Appoints Former Salesforce Executive as First Chief of Revenue
In a move aimed at addressing its significant financial losses, OpenAI has appointed Denise Dresser, the outgoing CEO of Slack, as its first chief of revenue. This strategic decision is expected to reassure investors about the company’s commitment to profitability in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence (AI) market.
Dresser, who spent over a decade at Salesforce before joining Slack in 2020, will oversee the global revenue strategy at OpenAI. Her primary objective will be to help businesses integrate AI technology into their daily operations, thereby driving revenue growth.
The appointment comes as OpenAI faces intense competition from rival companies, including Google, which recently launched Gemini 3, the latest version of its AI assistant. Despite boasting over 800 million weekly users, OpenAI has yet to turn a profit and has committed more than $1 trillion in financial obligations to cloud computing providers and chipmakers.
OpenAI’s valuation stands at $500 billion, with investors growing increasingly concerned about the company’s ability to meet its financial obligations. The appointment of Dresser is seen as a significant step towards addressing these concerns and positioning OpenAI for long-term success.
As part of her new role, Dresser will focus on developing premium subscription models for ChatGPT, OpenAI’s flagship product. The company has yet to explore advertising revenue streams, a key source of income for Google’s dominant search business.
