JetBlue Unveils Exclusive Airport Lounge, BlueHouse
In a bid to elevate its premium travel experience, JetBlue Airways has unveiled its first airport lounge, BlueHouse, at its home hub at John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 5. The 9,000-square foot lounge, set to open on December 18 at 5 a.m. ET, is designed to provide a unique and inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a New York City apartment.
Design and Amenities
Inspired by the art deco style of the city, BlueHouse features free Wi-Fi, open seating areas, and a variety of grab-and-go food options, including breakfast favorites like bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, as well as pastrami on rye sandwiches later in the day. The lounge also boasts a selection of beverages from Joe Coffee and the Greats of Craft beer bar chain.
Cocktail Partner and Exclusive Access
In a nod to the exclusive nature of its cocktail partner, Please Don’t Tell, a bar in the East Village, not all visitors will be granted access to the lounge. However, JetBlue plans to offer passes for purchase starting in February, targeting lower status-tier members, customers traveling in the Mint cabin, credit card holders, and lounge members.
Capacity and Expansion Plans
With a capacity for 140 people, BlueHouse is smaller than some of its larger rivals, but JetBlue’s smaller network and focus on high-end leisure travel may prove to be a strategic advantage. The airline has already announced plans to open another BlueHouse lounge at its Boston hub next year.
Competitive Landscape
JetBlue’s entry into the airport lounge market is part of a broader trend among airlines to offer premium amenities and services to attract high-end customers. Southwest Airlines, for example, has announced plans to pursue a network of airport lounges, while larger carriers like Delta Air Lines have long offered lounge access to their passengers.
