Google Maps has introduced a game-changing feature for iPhone users, making it easier than ever to remember where you parked your car. The app now automatically saves your parking location, eliminating the need to manually mark the spot or take a picture of the surrounding area.
How it Works
This innovative feature is available to iPhone users who connect their device to their car via Bluetooth, CarPlay, or a USB cable. When you disconnect your iPhone from your car, Google Maps will automatically mark the location on the map, saving you the hassle of searching for your vehicle. Additionally, you can grant Google Maps permission to access your Motion & Fitness data, which allows the app to detect when you’ve started and stopped driving.
Setting Up the Feature
To enable this feature, follow these simple steps:
1. Open Google Maps and navigate to the Navigation section.
2. Tap on “Automatically save parking” and select “Let maps use your motion to save your parking.”
3. Alternatively, you can set Google Maps’ location permissions to “Always” in your iPhone‘s Settings app.
Is this Feature New?
While some users may be reporting this feature as new, it appears that it may have been available for some time. A LinkedIn announcement from Google Maps senior product manager Rio Akasaka, dated a month ago, has sparked confusion among users. However, it’s possible that the feature was rolled out to a smaller subset of users before being made available to the general public.
Availability on Android Devices
Unfortunately, this feature is currently only available on iOS devices, leaving Android users without this convenient feature. However, Google has confirmed that they are working on rolling out the feature to Android devices in the future.
