Elon Musk Reflects on DOGE’s Limited Success, Prioritizing Business Ventures
In a recent interview with his aide and conservative influencer Katie Miller, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk acknowledged the limited success of his efforts leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and expressed regret over diverting his attention from his core businesses.
Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and owner of the social media platform X, defended the Trump administration’s controversial pop-up agency, which he left in the spring before its official shutdown last month. However, he lamented the challenges of reforming the federal government quickly and the negative impact on his businesses due to his involvement with DOGE.
“We were somewhat successful,” Musk said, referring to DOGE’s efforts to streamline government operations. However, when pressed by Miller on whether he would repeat the experience, Musk replied, “I don’t think so. I would have rather focused on my companies.”
Musk’s comments came during a 50-minute conversation on the “Katie Miller Podcast,” where he discussed various topics, including his thoughts on AI, social media, conspiracy theories, and fashion. Miller, who is married to top Trump adviser Stephen Miller, launched the podcast after leaving government employment to work for Musk in the private sector.
Musk credited DOGE with saving up to $200 billion annually in “zombie payments” by implementing more efficient automated systems and coding for federal payouts. However, this figure is significantly lower than his initial promises of trillions of dollars in savings.
Since leaving the Trump administration, Musk has seen a significant turnaround in his fortunes, with Tesla shareholders approving a pay package that could make him the world’s first trillionaire.
